Tattoo Aftercare Guide

Getting a tattoo is just the first step—proper aftercare ensures your new ink heals beautifully and lasts a lifetime. At My Tattoos 22, we want you to enjoy your tattoo for years to come, so we’ve put together this detailed aftercare guide.

First 24 Hours

  • Your artist will cover your tattoo with a protective bandage or wrap.

  • Keep this on for the time recommended (usually 2–6 hours).

  • Wash your hands before touching your tattoo.

  • Gently wash the area with lukewarm water and fragrance-free, mild soap.

  • Pat dry with a clean paper towel—do not rub.

  • Apply a thin layer of recommended tattoo aftercare ointment.

Days 2–7: The Healing Begins

  • Wash your tattoo gently twice a day with unscented soap and lukewarm water.

  • Apply a thin layer of aftercare cream or balm—avoid over-applying, as this can suffocate the skin.

  • Your tattoo may feel tight, itchy, or start flaking—this is normal.

  • Do not scratch, pick, or peel the skin. Let it heal naturally.

Weeks 2–4: Peeling & Settling

  • Continue moisturizing with a light, unscented lotion.

  • Your tattoo may look dull or cloudy—this will improve as the skin regenerates.

  • Avoid soaking your tattoo in water (no swimming, hot tubs, or long baths).

  • Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds.

Long-Term Care

  • Always protect your tattoo with SPF 30+ sunscreen when exposed to the sun.

  • Keep your skin hydrated for long-lasting color and definition.

  • Schedule touch-ups if needed to keep your tattoo looking its best.

What to Avoid

❌ Don’t scratch or pick at your tattoo.
❌ Don’t expose it to dirty environments (gyms, pools, etc.) while healing.
❌ Don’t use petroleum jelly or heavy creams unless recommended.
❌ Don’t listen to myths—always follow professional advice.
